Diesel engine bearing monitoring

RoomHR C101

Failure data of marine diesel engines showed that main and connecting rod bearings are the most critical parts. These bearings fail when the oil film isn’t able to separate the bearing from the shaft, this is mainly caused due to poor lubrication, assembly errors, contamination and fatigue. When the bearings fail the crankshaft and connecting rod gets damaged and in some cases happen complete engine seizures. The crank train bearings are modeled in Comsol and Matlab to simulate different degradation scenarios to determine which parameters indicate bearing degradation.
