Reducing Geometrical pulse-to-pulse Separation (pitch) in Solid Gold Laser-induced Forward Transfer - Flapper, J.P. (Jort)

Summary

In this study, the effects of a decreasing spot pitch on donor crater geometry and deposit quality were studied using optical, confocal, and electron microscopy. A solid gold donor with a thickness of 200 nm was tested at a fluence level resulting in disc-like deposits, and significantly higher and lower fluence levels. Similar tests were performed using a 400 nm thick gold donor at a fluence resulting in disc-like deposits. Relations between crater dimensions and spot pitch were tested to predict the spot pitch at which donor crater deformations occur. A thermal experiment and optical simulation were performed, and prior literature regarding tunnel forming in LIFT donor material was used to build a model that would explain the found results.
