The value of industrial energy flexibility - Siffels, M. (Merlijn)

Summary

The increasing electrification of industrial processes, combined with grid congestion, necessitates new energy management strategies to ensure sustainable and reliable power supply. This research explores the role of flexible energy demand within the industrial area of Urk, using Urk as a case study to identify which industries and processes have the largest flexibility potential. For the energy system of the industrial area of Urk the three sectors which are modelled are the electric demand, the heat demand, and the transport demand.  Through a set of scenarios the role of the transmission grid, the installed capacities of different technologies, and uptake of renewables will be modeled. The findings will contribute to strategies that enable modern industrial design, advancing the roll-out of sustainable practices.
