Summary

This thesis focuses on the design and development of a new infeeder system for a biomass gasifier for methanol production, with improvements in reliability, efficiency and process control as the key objectives.

A new infeeder design was developed, including a 3D model and a new control strategy for operation. The system was designed to handle a variety of feedstocks and reduce the risk of operational disturbances. To evaluate the feasibility of the proposed design, a techno-economic assessment was carried out, showing potential benefits in terms of operational stability and revenue generation.

The steps taken during the design phase were translated into a guideline for future infeeder designs at upscaled capacity. This guideline was integrated into the general design process  of the company and can be applied in future projects. The combination of design, validation, and process development provides a strong basis for further improvements in biomass gasification technologies.
