Summary

The thesis focuses on optimizing the operation and design of the closed electricity grid at the University of Twente to address challenges arising from the global transition to RES, increasing electricity demand, and the electrification of energy consumption. The UT's commitment to sustainability and its goal to become carbon-neutral by 2030 require innovative solutions for managing its closed electricity grid.

The current state of the grid is investigated, in terms of technical, financial and environmental aspects. It examines challenges such as grid congestion and limitations imposed by increasing energy consumption, particularly due to the rising demand for EV charging. DSM strategies are integrated to improve the grid's operation.

Through scenario-based modeling and analysis, the thesis aims to identify strategies that optimize grid operations. The thesis provides insights into how distributed energy systems, such as increased PV and ESSs, can contribute to the UT's sustainability objectives while ensuring reliable and efficient grid management. Ultimately, the study offers recommendations for a future-proof electricity grid at the UT that aligns with its sustainability goals.
