Summary
In this research, a redesign is made by a suture tool to enable it for reuse over multiple patients. The device is intended to close the abdominal wall in laparotomy. It features a special mechanism to allow for faster and more accurate placement of sutures. The current version of the tool is designed to be single use, however the Mellon company was interested in exploring the possibilities for a reusable version. Through research, a concept design is made which allows effective reprocessing. The design is such that the internal components can easily be accessed, and geometry which cannot be cleaned can be exchanged. This way, it is ensured that the tool is sterile at the beginning of each surgery.
