Summary
This Master's thesis project investigates the application of Triply Periodic Minimal Surfaces (TPMS) structures in oil-to-air heat transfer. The research begins with a comprehensive literature review exploring the potential of additive manufacturing techniques for enhancing heat transfer efficiency. Based on this knowledge, various TPMS geometries are selected and tested for their effectiveness in addressing heat transfer challenges.
Initially, simulations are conducted to understand the fundamental principles of heat transfer in TPMS structures. Following the simulations, experimental work is undertaken to validate the simulation results and assess the printability of TPMS structures using the laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing method. This dual-phase approach culminates in the identification of an optimal TPMS structure that can be effectively applied in oil-to-air heat exchangers within the automotive industry.
