Summary

This thesis project aimed to design a concept for the AgriBox, a self-contained portable module that serves as a hands-on learning environment for climate-change-resilient agricultural practices in low-income communities. The design had to be flexible for usage in different climatic conditions, types of crops, and agricultural methods. The research involved a thorough investigation of literature to understand the context surrounding undernourishment and identified the target group as small-scale food producers in sub-Saharan Africa, central America, and the Middle East. The AgriBox approach was found to be unique in that it combines multiple aspects and brings the knowledge, inspiration, equipment and learning environment physically to the communities in need. Target group involvement was identified as a crucial component of the project's success. Due to this, the resulting design concept transformed from a portable classroom to a think-tank space with physical demonstrations of growing methods for inspiration and experimentation. The AgriBox project resulted in a concept for a semi-protected brainstorming space, designed for collaboration with the locals to co-create solutions most suitable for their circumstances and climatic conditions.
