Biosourced polymer foams via direct bubble writting - Wieffer, R.B.H. (Rens)

Summary

This research project explores the possibility of creating biodegradable foams from vegetable oils using 3D printing, focusing on a technique called direct bubble writing for precise control of foam properties. The study investigates if vegetable oils, specifically avocado and corn oil, can be used for this purpose.

The project involves analyzing the fluid properties of these oils, modifying them with acrylate groups to enable photopolymerization, and then using them in 3D printing to create foams with tunable properties. The results show that vegetable oil-based foams can be successfully 3D printed and have potential applications in sustainable packaging, insulation, cushioning, sensing, and acoustics.
