Samenvatting
This thesis and presentation are CONFIDENTIAL
The production of encapsulated microparticles is becoming increasingly important due to its wide range of applications. Microcapsules can protect active ingedrients, drastically increasing preservation life, but importantly control the release of pharmaceutical drugs. This lowers dosage peaks and prevent adverse side-effects. This study therefore aimed to produce injectable (<100 μm), monodisperse capsules with a coefficient of variance below 10% using In-Air MicroFluidics (IAMF). This revolutionary technique is ten to hundredfold faster than conventional chip-based techniques, which are typically constrained by its complexity and its low throughput. IAMF relies on the encapsulation of monodisperse microparticles using two physical phenomena: Plateau-Rayleigh Instability and Marangoni effect.
This study aims to extend the capabilities of this technique in the formation of microjets consistent of two fluids: A compound jet. With an extension to upscaling the number of nozzles and thus throughput.
