Color-calibrated feasibility study of Droplet on Demand lubrication in elastohydrodynamic point contacts - Wijk, J. van (Jort)

Summary

This talk will discuss the feasibility study on lubricating elastohydrodynamic (EHL) point contact with Droplet-on-Demand (DoD) lubrication. The motivation for this type of lubrication is lubricant usage reduction. Unlike conventional methods, DoD provided increased control of the timing, size, and frequency of the lubricant delivery.
Information from the experimental results was extracted with a newly created analysis script. Relating the contact color to the lubricant thickness within the contact.
The experimental results show remarkable agreement with the numerical simulation regarding the phenomena included in the simulation. As a result, the DoD lubrication is proven to have the potential to serve as part of a controlled lubrication strategy.
