Summary
Combustion systems can suffer from noisy thermoacoustic instabilities, driven by feedback between the flame and acoustics. This study analyzes a combustion system originally designed for a residential boiler using an Acoustic Network Model (ANM), which requires a Flame Transfer Function (FTF) to characterize the flame’s response. The FTF was experimentally measured by relating heat release rate fluctuations to fuel mass flow perturbations, generated by a siren and quantified with the Multi-Microphone Method. The measured FTF showed generally weak flame interaction, and its implementation into the ANM predicted a stable system under the tested conditions.
