Experimental study on supersonic turbulent boundary layer buffeting for aerospace vehicles. - de Vries, P.B.

Summary

In this work, scale experiments were conducted to replicate turbulent boundary layers experienced by high-altitude, high-velocity vehicles. Unsteady pressure data was collected and used to characterize the turbulent boundary layer. Next, a buffeting panel was placed beneath the turbulent boundary layer, which produced an acoustic field when excited. Acoustic absorbing materials were placed into the acoustic field for the purpose of validating simulation results.

The present work involved the cooperation of the Von Karman Institute, the European Space Agency, the Etex group, and OpenEngineering.
