Summary
The global push toward sustainable energy systems is driving industries to adopt innovative solutions to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy efficiency. This research explores the feasibility and optimization of heat pump technology at Teijin Aramid’s fiber production facility in Emmen, where conventional heating and cooling methods result in high operational costs and environmental impact.
The study investigates how heat pumps can facilitate efficient heat recovery and redistribution across different process sections while maintaining process stability. Various heat pump configurations, including centralized and cascade systems, are evaluated based on key performance indicators such as coefficient of performance (COP), exergy efficiency, and scalability. Thermodynamic analysis, refrigerant selection, and economic feasibility assessments demonstrate that heat pump integration can reduce electricity costs by up to 50% compared to conventional systems.
By identifying the most effective system configurations, this research provides insights into how industrial processes can be optimized for energy efficiency and sustainability. The findings align with the International Energy Agency’s Net Zero Emissions by 2050 Scenario and contribute to advancing sustainable energy practices in manufacturing.
