Samenvatting

Scuffing in polymer-coated sheet metals during the wall ironing process presents a significant challenge in can manufacturing. This study investigates the scuffing mechanisms affecting polyethylene terephthalate (PET)-coated sheet metals through controlled sliding tests. A degradation-entropy generation (DEG) method is employed to analytically model scuffing behavior, integrating thermal and frictional entropy contributions. Experimental findings reveal a strong dependence of scuffing on temperature, friction, and sliding velocity, with higher temperatures and loads leading to increased scuffing. The study provides a predictive model calibrated using experimental data, demonstrating its potential for in situ monitoring and process optimization in industrial applications.
