Samenvatting

Direct air capture (DAC) is a promising technique for removing post-combustion CO2 from atmospheric air in a synthetic carbon sink. Widespread implementation of DAC is hindered by counteractive axiomatics of air separation, resulting in high energy consumption and inherently high operating costs. In this work, a sorption cycle with salt hydrate solid sorbent  for intended small-scale application at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) facilities is reviewed and optimized, exploring the opportunities for internal waste heat recycle (WHR) in a novel two-reactor setup. A lumped parameter model has been developed for rapid insight in effects of system parameters on cycle energy consumption, productivity rate and process synchronization. The cycle is modeled as a direct heated temperature swing adsorption cycle, where CO2 is used as a regeneration gas to prevent dilution of product-CO2. Fragmentary adsorption and desorption was applied in the optimization to help process synchronization, along with system parameter modification. The lumped parameter model supports an experimental setup at University of Twente and enables accelerated reactor design.
