Samenvatting
The increasing complexity of the Electrical Power System (EPS), driven by the rapid integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES), has created new challenges for Transmission System Operators (TSOs), particularly concerning system stability in real-time operations. The integration of Digital Twin (DT) technology into TSOs, such as TenneT TSO, presents an innovative pathway to enhance their capabilities in various activities, including online Dynamic Security Analysis (DSA). In this context, there is a lack of a methodology for the conceptual modeling of DT applications, which would facilitate more effective communication among multidisciplinary stakeholders and ensure alignment of services and capabilities with stakeholders' needs.
The primary challenge addressed by this master's thesis, within the context of conceptual modeling methodologies, is the lack of a generic reference structure for DT applications and the absence of a step-by-step approach that integrates stakeholder requirements and interactions, system structure, and behavioral characteristics into the conceptual design.
The results include a DT reference structure tailored to TSOs, along with a step-by-step approach for conceptualising DT applications in TSOs. This approach provides actionable steps for systematically creating and delivering DT conceptual models, starting from concept exploration through preliminary and detailed design phases. A key output of this master's thesis is a high-level (i.e., preliminary) conceptual model of a DT-Enhanced Online DSA application, aimed at improving real-time system operations of TSOs and ensuring the security of electricity supply.
The proposed conceptual modeling methodology is integrated into a Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) life cycle and utilizes Systems Modeling Language (SysML) for effective modeling and communication of DT applications throughout the life cycle.
