Samenvatting
The transition to sustainable energy systems has become a global priority in the face of increasing energy demands and climate change. This thesis presents a techno-economic analysis of three cutting-edge hybrid energy systems designed for eco-friendly district heating and electricity supply in residential areas. Using systems engineering principles and the V-model methodology, the study explores the integration of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, coupled with energy storage technologies like hydrogen and lithium-ion batteries.
A genetic algorithm was employed to optimize the energy configurations based on investment cost, return on investment (ROI), and area usage. The results demonstrated that both emerging and established technologies provide viable solutions, with the third concept—comprising proven technologies—offering the best overall performance. Sensitivity analysis further revealed that tailoring these energy systems to specific conditions significantly enhances their efficiency and reliability.
This research highlights the potential for hybrid energy systems to reduce CO2 emissions, alleviate pressure on national grids, and promote long-term economic sustainability. Future work should focus on refining the model through more precise demand data and exploring opportunities to incorporate waste heat recovery for further efficiency gains.
